Rita's Boat, a practical flat-bottom skiff.A flat-bottomed skiff which measures 7'5" in length, Rita's Boat is named after a good friend who passed away several years ago. Rita joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary late in her life and although she didn't own a boat of her own, she never hesitated to join in on various training operations, and always pulled her weight. We had built this skiff as an experiment, hoping to be able to make available an economical and practical alternative to our other lap strake designs, and offered to raffle off the prototype at our annual Change of Watch. When Rita's name was drawn as the winner, she couldn't have been more pleased to join the boat owners in the organization, and had a lot of great times using this skiff on Sandusky Bay with her children and grandchildren. Thereafter, this design soon became known as "Rita's Boat", and we have built many more of this pattern. We only hope that the other owners of this design have enjoyed using this skiff as much as Rita and her family did over the years. |
